Nonprofit Branding • The Joslin School • Kakamega County, Kenya
Ange was part of a small circle of people supporting a Kenyan woman, Jossy, in getting her education. And when she’d gotten far enough, she turned to them and essentially said, “It’s my turn to give back now. I want to build a school. Will you help me bring this to life?”
Ange has said, “I’m not sure I have a career…I think I have a calling.” and this was the calling she stepped graciously into.
They spent $500 USD to get the first building up and going to host a class.
And in the first 3 days…no one showed up to the school.
Jossy freaked out and was ready to give up. But Ange is a coach who knew not to waiver.
And within weeks they had 20 kids signed up, with parents just as ecstatic as them.
The Brand Story
With a strong team, The Joslin School’s taken in students and have been able to provide them free meals when some students were previously malnourished…
…Clean water within feet of their kitchen when before their cook, Evelyn, would have to walk 1/4 mile 3-4 times a day for unfiltered water…
…Literacy in a place where the parents could only dream of knowing how to read…
…They’re giving children a chance to experience technology and resources, even in a town with no electricity.
At The Joslin School, they’re focusing on creativity and innovation and conscious co-creation with the community.
Which means that everything they do for the school benefits the village, too (even that fresh water source).
They want to revolutionize the way schools look out here by connecting with the community, finding out what they need, and working with them to help them achieve it, rather than deciding for them.
And with 50 kids in the program today, just a couple months later, I’d say they’re well on their way.
They have goals to see these kids through high school and university, with the intentions of making sure they leave with job placements (because right now there are so many intelligent and hardworking Keyans with no job opportunities, even after they’ve gotten a degree).
Here’s to amazing futures for everyone.
